03 / ABOUT THE COMPOSER
Another language
for the scene.
I’m Yongwoo Kim, a composer and music director.
I begin with the scene, the space, and the movement,
then find the role music can play within them.
A character’s inner world, the flow of an exhibition, a performer’s movement. I begin with what each project wants its audience to feel, then shape the instrumentation, textures, and musical structure around it.
My work moves between Korean instruments, electronics, and orchestra in search of the sound each scene needs. I handle composition and arrangement through to mixing and mastering, carrying the original intention into the final recording.
I studied harmony, counterpoint, orchestration, and arrangement with a foundation in classical composition in the four-year Arrangement and Composition course at SHOBI College of Music in Japan.
